Maryland Families for Safe Birth is excited to invite you to participate in the 2026 Maryland March for Change Advocacy Day on February 11, 2026, in Annapolis.  Advocates of all experience levels are welcome and will be supported through pre-event preparation, issue briefs, and coordinated legislative meetings to ensure meaningful and accessible participation.  (After you register, more details will be provided.)

Advocacy priorities will include access to care, Medicaid coverage, support for midwives and doulas, hospital quality improvement, maternal mental health, and perinatal workforce needs.

Birth Equity legislation in 2025

Maryland Families for Safe Birth is drafting our more comprehensive Birth Equity bill for this upcoming legislative session. In our previous Improving Birth survey, we have heard that many are concerned with the need for true informed consent, free-standing birth centers, access to VBAC/HBAC, and reducing racial disparities. Our 2025 bill will touch on a number of these concerns.  Stand by for more information about how you can help connect with your state legislators and share your stories about why birth equity matters!

2024 Lobby Day is Cancelled

2/2/24 UPDATE – Our 2024 MFSB Lobby Day has been cancelled and instead we will be holding a Rally to promote maternity care and evidence-based, culturally informed birth options in Maryland and raise support for MFSB’s work and future legislation. Date for the Rally has not yet been announced but will be later in the legislative session, likely in late March. Please check back again soon for more information on the Rally, and we hope you can join us in Annapolis!

MFSB will not be having a Lobby Day in 2024 as originally planned. We will instead be holding a Rally, most likely in late March.

We need everyone to show up! This is your chance to let your voice be heard. Maternity care is a critical issue and we need to let our legislators know that we care about access to evidence-based, culturally sensitive maternity care in Maryland.

CANCELLED – Lobby Day 2024

2/2/24 UPDATE – This event has been cancelled – please attend our upcoming Rally in Annapolis instead (date TBD in March).

Our 2024 Lobby Day for Maternity Care Access is Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM in Annapolis!

Join Maryland Families for Safe Birth in Annapolis on Wednesday, 2/7/24 to show your representatives that you care about maternal health care for Maryland families. We will be supporting a bill which will improve access to VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) for families seeking that option. This is the same bill that passed through the house almost unanimously last session but stalled in the Senate. We need as many people as possible to show up in Annapolis to let our representatives know how important this issue is!

We will do all of the legwork to schedule your meetings, provide talking points, etc. All of the meetings will include at least two members from our group. All you have to do is show up (and let us know you are coming ???? )
