Maryland Families for Safe Birth held its biggest fundraiser so far on April 26, 2015 – our first “Miles for Midwives” 5K Run and Walk and 1-mile Family Stroll! This fun, family-oriented event was held in historic Frederick, Maryland. More than 60 supporters gathered at beautiful Monocacy Village Park to enjoy all the amenities including a pavilion and playground. Following a course which combined road and paved path, participants were directed by road marshals to complete two loops on Schifferstadt Boulevard, then proceeded through another section of the park, back onto road and finally returned to the pavilion for the finish line bash complete with live music with The Dapper DJs (a local highlight), food and water, as well as a raffle drawing with prizes donated by many local businesses. Prizes were also awarded to event participants for the following categories:
5K Run:
- Fastest Female and Male Runner (18 years and older)
- Fastest Female and Male Runner (17 years old and younger)
- Oldest Runner
- Youngest Runner
1 Mile Family Stroll:
- Most creative costume(s)
- Most money raised
- Largest number of donations collected
